Hello D80!

Another toy!

And goodbye to the old faithful the Nikon D70s, my first DSLR. Sold off the item to an enthusiastic chappie who came all the way from Cyberjaya to pick up the D70s two nights ago. Replacing it will the D80 touted as a D200 of sorts. High ISO noise is said to be well controlled. We'll see about that....

Cheng Beng

Smoke transfer

Did the Cheng Beng thing over the weekend. Can't believe that we had been going there for the past 37 years...Quiet day. It was past the actual day on 5 April but within the 10 days "before & after". Being in a small town some of these rituals are religiously observed, though I would think some time in the future, less of this will be practised.

Inspired by Andy Warhol's famous paintings of Marilyn Monroe where he created the paintings using silkscreens to create a kind of "assembly line" art. Available for Flickr users at fd's Flickr Toys.

Flickr

My Flickr Badge!

I created a free account in Flickr some years back when it just started and since then it has been bought over by Yahoo! A free account has its limitations on the upload limit and number of photos available online. As my photo collection began to grow and I realised a Pro account was the way to go. At USD24.95 a year, I think that's reasonable for a 20G upload limit per month and unlimited number of photos online. Also recently the laptop's hard drive crashed and quite some photos went off in digital oblivion. At least now my favourite photos are somewhere in cyberspace and retrievable anytime...I hope!

Kota Kinabalu

Cock & Bull
Originally uploaded by Lye Hock.

Last weekend work brought me to the Land Below the Wind specifically in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Had the opportuinity to down a few in the waterfront area. It was a great place with a stretch of pubs & restaurants overlooking the sea. Dubbed the Bangsar of Kota Kinabalu, the night scene there has been upped a few notches. Looks like a place to come back again in the near future....
